ABOUT GRAHAM JOSEPH HILL OAM PHD

“Exploring Christian Spirituality, Public Life, and the Common Good”

I’m an Adjunct Research Fellow and Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University. I’m the award-winning author of over twenty books, including Salt, Light, and a City, which won the 2012 Jesus Creed Book of the Year (church category); Healing Our Broken Humanity (with Grace Ji-Sun Kim), named Outreach Magazine’s 2019 Book of the Year (culture category); and World Christianity, shortlisted for the 2025 Australian Christian Book of the Year. In 2024, I received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to theological education. I live in Sydney with my wife, Shyn.

I write about Christian spirituality and its significance for our lives, our culture, and our shared existence. My reflections explore how the Way of Jesus shapes the inner life, nurtures compassion, and calls us into courageous engagement with the world. I believe the gospel speaks not only to our faith but also to the deepest wounds of our societies—inviting us into practices of justice, reconciliation, and love.

What I share here is for those who hunger for a faith that’s contemplative yet active, rooted in prayer yet alive to the cries of those experiencing injustice, poverty, marginalization, and brokenheartedness. Following Jesus is never only about private devotion; it’s about walking a road of hope, healing, and wholeness that transforms us and the world around us. I aim to encourage a spirituality that’s honest, grounded, and hospitable—a spirituality that forms us in the Way of Jesus for the sake of others and the common good.

What do I believe?

I explore the relationships between Christian spirituality and public life, shaped by a high view of the Christian Scriptures, a deep commitment to the core beliefs of historical Christianity, and practicing the Way of Jesus in everyday life (as a disciple of Jesus Christ). I affirm the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Chalcedonian Definition as faithful expressions of Christian orthodoxy. My work is grounded in the authority of Scripture, the centrality of Christ, the life of the Triune God, and the hope of the gospel for both personal transformation and the common good.
