I explore the links between Christian faith and personal and public life, shaped by Scripture’s authority, historic Christian orthodoxy, and discipleship in the Way of Jesus. I affirm the Nicene, Apostles’, and Chalcedonian creeds as faithful expressions of that orthodoxy, and I hold the Old and New Testaments as the inspired and trustworthy Word of God, carrying supreme authority for faith and conduct. My work is grounded in the life of the Triune God and centered on Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, whose gospel comes to us as a gift of grace and brings both personal transformation and the common good.
Keeping Christ at the Center: Resisting Idolatry in an Age of Distraction
There’s a tragedy unfolding in many corners of the church today. It isn’t loud enough to make headlines. It doesn’t announce itself with scandal or collapse. Instead, it moves like a subtle fog through sanctuaries and institutions, soft enough that few notice the...
A Cruciform Witness Against Anti-Palestinianism: Learning to See, Lament, and Love in the Way of Christ
There are wounds that span generations. Wounds carried not merely in flesh but in memory, in longing, in the very landscape of a people’s story. For Palestinians (Christian and Muslim alike) these wounds have become a defining mark of existence: dispossession,...
A Cruciform Witness Against Antisemitism: A Christian Call to Love, Justice, and Truth
Christians throughout the centuries have used the word “cruciform” (literally “cross-shaped”) to describe a life patterned after Jesus’s self-giving love. A cruciform faith is one shaped by the self-giving love of Jesus revealed on the cross. It embodies a way of...
The Centrality of Jesus Christ for Christian Discipleship and Spirituality
There’s a center to all things, and it’s not us. In an age where the self is enthroned and every voice declares its own truth, Christian faith makes a startling claim: that the true center of reality, of faith, of creation itself, isn’t an idea or a moral code, but...
How the Bible Shapes Christian Discipleship and Spirituality
There are few things more radical than believing that the living God speaks: still, now, through words on a page. Compared with the views of our age, it's an astonishing conviction to believe that these words in Scripture, ancient yet alive, can pierce the noise of...
Doubt and Discipleship to Jesus: How Christian Spirituality Guides Our Way
There are nights when faith feels like silence. When prayer echoes into absence. When words once bright with certainty now taste like ash. It’s tempting to think something has gone terribly wrong; that doubt is failure, that questioning means betrayal. Yet the...
Exvangelicals and the Exodus: Spiritual Lessons for Deconstructing Faith
There’s a migration unfolding across Western Christianity. You can hear it in the discussions on podcasts, the honesty of social media posts, the long pauses in once-familiar prayers. They call it deconstruction: a word that sounds like demolition but often hides...
The Sacred Gift of Free Speech: Why it Must Be Guarded with Truth and Grace
Words create worlds. From the first breath of creation, when divine speech summoned light from the void, to the prayers of the weary and the fiery declarations of the prophets, human history has been shaped by speech.[1] Words carry spirit. They form, reveal, and...
Let’s Stop Talking about Masculinity and Start Talking about Discipleship
The masculinity movement is now an entire industry with books, seminars, and speakers. The movement has grown up around notions of “biblical manhood,” but in reality, it reinforces worldly ideas of masculinity and femininity. A whole generation of boys and men today...
The Death of Vengeance, the Birth of Grace: Unlearning the Language of Vengeance
The language of vengeance has become fluent in our time. It fills our feeds, our politics, our conversations. It thrives in the chants of rallies, the venom of comment threads, and the conversations of resentment at family tables. Its grammar is simple: They hurt...
Pulling Back from the Brink: A Spiritual Path Beyond Toxic Politics
The air feels charged with anger. Outrage spreads like fire through our feeds. Families split across political lines, friends grow suspicious, neighbors draw the curtains. In many Western nations, democracy itself groans under the weight of distrust, misinformation,...
Activism with a Monk’s Heart: Thurman’s Secret for Sustainable Justice
Righteous anger rises in the streets as protesters chant for justice. In the United States, Black Lives Matter rallies cry out against systemic racism. In Australia, voices lift for First Nations dignity and reconciliation. The church professes that it should be “no...
